Formula EB7 E-Moto Brake System | 74.2mm Surron, Talaria, E Ride Pro, Ventus and Rerode Fitment

The Formula EB7 E-Moto Brake System was developed specifically for the original class of lightweight electric motorcycles. Instead of adapting an oversized brake to a smaller platform, Formula engineered the EB7 around the common 74.2mm post mount used by bikes such as the Surron Light Bee, Talaria Sting MX3 and MX4, and E Ride Pro SS 2.0.

Designed and manufactured in Italy, the EB7 combines a slim profile with the stiffness and hydraulic consistency needed for demanding off-road riding. Its caliper body is CNC-machined from aeronautic-grade Ergal 7075 aluminum, then finished with black anodizing for additional surface protection. This construction helps maintain a solid, predictable brake feel when the trail gets rough or temperatures begin to climb.

Controlled Power for Lightweight E-Motos

The EB7 uses four 22mm pistons in the front caliper and two 22mm pistons in the rear. This front and rear configuration provides strong braking force while keeping modulation smooth and manageable. Phenolic pistons help control heat transfer through the caliper, while sintered brake pads provide dependable wear life and braking performance in dirt, mud, and high-temperature conditions.

Forged aluminum master cylinders and adjustable ball-end levers give the system a refined lever feel without unnecessary bulk. Steel-braided brake hoses with PTFE inner liners resist expansion under pressure, helping the brakes deliver consistent engagement during repeated hard stops and aggressive trail riding.

The result is a lightweight e-moto brake system that feels precise at the lever, stays composed under heat, and fits supported 74.2mm platforms without requiring a wider EB9 caliper.

Important Rotor and Adapter Requirements

All supported lightweight e-moto installations must use a 220mm rotor at the front and rear for proper braking performance. Although the EB7 caliper can accommodate several rotor diameters when paired with the correct mount configuration, the specified setup for these lightweight e-motos is 220mm front and rear.

If you are installing a 220mm front rotor with the Tech E39 fork, you must use Tech’s 203mm brake mount adapter for proper caliper alignment and fitment. Using the wrong adapter may cause mounting problems, incorrect pad contact, or improper brake operation.

The EB7 mount design includes a step up in rotor size. A 220mm rotor requires a 203mm adapter, while a 240mm rotor requires a 220mm adapter. Depending on the bike and mounting arrangement, changing the rotor size may be an alternative to changing the adapter. Always verify the complete fork, adapter, rotor, and caliper combination before riding.

Formula EB7 vs. Formula EB9

The EB7 is the compact option for lightweight e-motos using a 74.2mm post mount. The EB9 is designed for newer, higher-power platforms with larger brake mounts. It uses a wider caliper body and thicker pads to suit those applications.

Both systems use the same master cylinder, piston size, and brake pad surface area. Because of these shared components, the EB7 and EB9 provide nearly identical braking power. The main difference is physical fitment, caliper width, pad thickness, and the post-mount size required by the bike.

  • 74.2mm post mount: Formula EB7
  • 90mm post mount: Formula EB9 for Arctic Leopard EX Pro S and Enduro models, using a slimmer version of the EB9 caliper for clearance
  • 95.5mm post mount: Formula EB9 for Talaria MX5 and Altis Sigma
  • 99.5mm post mount: Formula EB9 for E Ride Pro SS 3.0 and SR

Formula EB7 and EB9 availability is being introduced in phases, beginning with the EB7 and the EB9 version for E Ride Pro SS 3.0 and SR models.

How to Identify the Correct Brake

  1. Remove the existing brake caliper.
  2. Locate the two threaded mounting holes on the fork or brake adapter.
  3. Measure the distance from the center of one hole to the center of the other.
  4. Match that measurement to the appropriate EB7 or EB9 version listed above.
  5. Confirm your current rotor diameter and the adapter required for that rotor.

If you are still unsure, take a clear photo of the fork mount, record the current rotor size, and contact your dealer or distributor before installation. Correct mount spacing, rotor diameter, and adapter selection are all necessary for safe alignment and dependable braking.

Installation and Service Notes

Formula EB7 brakes arrive pre-assembled and pre-bled. If either hose must be shortened during installation, the brake will need to be bled afterward to remove air and restore a firm, consistent lever feel. Brake installation is a safety-critical job, so all mounting hardware, hose routing, rotor alignment, and lever operation should be inspected before riding.

Who Is the Formula EB7 Best For?

  • Aggressive trail riders who need predictable modulation, heat control, and durable sintered pads in dirt and mud
  • Lightweight e-moto owners upgrading from the stock brake system who want a purpose-built 74.2mm solution with precise fitment
  • Riders who value consistent lever feel and want forged controls, braided hoses, and CNC-machined Italian calipers without adding unnecessary size or weight

The Formula EB7 stands out because every major component is designed around the demands of lightweight electric motorcycles. From its rigid 7075 aluminum calipers and heat-managing phenolic pistons to its forged controls and steel-braided hoses, it delivers the control, consistency, and confidence needed for serious e-moto riding.
