Tomahawk TG5500i 5500W Inverter Generator | E-Moto Charging, 120V/240V & Backup Power

Built Tough for Bigger Power Demands

The Tomahawk TG5500i Inverter Generator is the step-up option for riders, professionals, and off-grid setups that need serious portable power. With 5,000 rated watts, 5,500 starting watts, 120V and 240V output, advanced inverter technology, and less than 3% total harmonic distortion, this generator gives you substantially more room for high-output e-moto chargers, multiple bikes, tools, appliances, and other equipment.

For e-moto riders, the biggest advantage is usable continuous power. A 5,000W rated output gives you room to build a much more capable track, race, camping, or emergency charging setup without immediately running into the limits of a smaller generator.

The TG5500i is powered by a 312cc engine and carries a large 4-gallon fuel tank for up to 8 hours of runtime at half load. Eco Mode helps manage engine speed and fuel consumption as demand changes, while electric start, built-in wheels, GFCI outlets, parallel capability, USB charging, and a 62 dBA noise rating make this a versatile generator for both work and recreation.

Tomahawk TG5500i super quiet inverter generator

Super Quiet Operation with Eco Mode

At a listed 62 dBA, the TG5500i is designed to keep noise more manageable than a traditional open-frame generator. That's useful when you're running power around a campsite, race pits, residential area, food truck, or other location where a loud generator gets old quickly.

Eco Mode adjusts engine speed to better match the electrical load. When your equipment doesn't require the generator's full output, the engine doesn't need to work as hard, helping reduce unnecessary fuel consumption and noise.

Tomahawk TG5500i extended runtime inverter generator

Up to 8 Hours of Runtime

A larger generator isn't very useful off-grid if you're constantly stopping to refuel it. The TG5500i combines its 4-gallon / 15.1-liter fuel tank with Eco Mode and efficient engine operation to provide up to 8 hours of runtime at half load.

That longer runtime is particularly useful for all-day track events, race weekends, camping trips, remote jobsites, food trucks, and emergency situations where dependable power may be needed for hours at a time.

Tomahawk TG5500i portable generator with wheel kit

Built-In Wheel Kit for Easier Transport

At 122 lbs, the TG5500i isn't meant to be carried around like a small 2kW generator. Instead, the built-in wheel kit makes moving the generator around the garage, shop, campsite, race pits, barn, or jobsite much easier.

The larger 25 x 22 x 28-inch platform gives you more engine, fuel capacity, and electrical output while still remaining mobile enough for portable applications.

Tomahawk TG5500i USB charging outlets

Two USB Charging Outlets

The TG5500i includes two USB outlets for convenient charging of phones and other compatible electronics. It's a small feature that becomes pretty useful when the generator is already handling the bigger jobs like charging bikes, running tools, or keeping camp equipment powered.

Tomahawk TG5500i GFCI outlets and power connections

GFCI, Parallel Technology & Twist-Lock Power

The TG5500i combines GFCI outlets, parallel capability, a 120V twist-lock outlet, and 240V output to support a much wider range of equipment than a basic portable generator.

If your power requirements eventually exceed a single TG5500i, its parallel capability allows compatible units to be connected for additional available output.

120V & 240V Power

The TG5500i provides two 120V outlets, one 120V twist-lock outlet, and one 240V outlet. This gives you more flexibility for higher-demand equipment and compatible charging systems.

For e-moto charging, always verify your charger's required input voltage before connecting it. Never connect a 120V-only charger to a 240V source. If your charger supports 120V and 240V input, follow the charger's manufacturer requirements for the proper connection and input voltage.

What Size Generator Do I Need for My E-Moto?

Choosing a generator for your e-moto is pretty simple: size it based on your charger, not your bike's motor. A 20kW e-moto does not need a 20,000W generator.

Quick Formula:
Charger Watts + Other Equipment + 20 to 30% Headroom = Recommended Generator Size

Example: If your e-moto charger uses 1,000W and you want another 300W available for lights, a fridge, phones, or other gear:

1,000W + 300W = 1,300W

Add about 25% headroom and you should look for roughly 1,600W or more of continuous/running output.

With 5,000W of rated continuous output, the TG5500i moves well beyond a basic single-bike charging setup. It gives you considerably more room for high-output chargers, multiple bikes, or charging while simultaneously powering your campsite, race pits, tools, or other equipment.

For sustained charging, calculate your available power using the generator's 5,000W rated output. The 5,500W starting output is intended for short startup demands and should not be treated as continuous charging capacity.

If your charger lists AC input voltage and amperage rather than watts, you can get a quick estimate using Volts x Amps = Watts. When available, use the charger's listed AC input wattage or manufacturer specifications for the most accurate number.

Charging Multiple E-Motos

This is where a 5,000W generator starts making a lot of sense for groups, families, race teams, or anyone bringing multiple bikes.

For example, two e-moto chargers drawing 1,500W each would create approximately a 3,000W continuous load. That still leaves additional rated generator capacity for compatible lights, electronics, tools, refrigeration, or other equipment.

Three 1,000W chargers would also create approximately a 3,000W load. The actual number of bikes you can charge at once depends on each charger's AC input requirements, not simply the number of outlets on the generator.

Always add the entire electrical load together and leave reasonable operating headroom rather than planning to continuously run the generator at its maximum rated capacity.

Why Inverter Power Matters

The TG5500i uses advanced inverter technology and is rated at less than 3% total harmonic distortion. This produces clean, stable power suitable for compatible e-moto chargers, computers, electronics, audio equipment, appliances, tools, and other sensitive devices.

When you're spending thousands of dollars on a bike and its battery system, power quality is worth paying attention to. That's one reason we generally prefer a quality inverter generator for e-moto charging when the generator is also going to be used with sensitive electronics.

Generator or Power Station?

Both can work. A fuel-powered generator like the TG5500i has the advantage of extended operation as long as you can refuel it, which can make more sense for multi-day riding trips, race weekends, jobsites, and emergency situations.

For portable battery power stations, check both the AC output wattage and battery capacity in Wh or kWh. Output determines whether the power station can run your charger. Capacity determines how much stored energy is available to put back into your bike, before accounting for normal conversion and charging losses.

Track, Camping & Emergency Use

If you're charging multiple e-motos or running additional equipment, add everything together. Your chargers, lights, refrigerator, tools, speakers, electronics, and other equipment all contribute to the generator's total load.

With 5,000 rated watts, inverter technology, 120V and 240V output, a 4-gallon fuel tank, and a built-in wheel kit, the TG5500i is a strong option when your setup has grown beyond simply charging one bike.

EV Charging

The TG5500i's higher output and 240V capability may make it relevant for some emergency EV charging situations, but EV charging has additional electrical, grounding, EVSE, and vehicle compatibility requirements. Having a 240V outlet does not automatically mean a generator is compatible with a Tesla or another EV.

Always verify compatibility between the generator, EVSE, vehicle, grounding requirements, outlet, and charging equipment before attempting EV charging.
