Riding an electric scooter is a fun and efficient way to get around, but it can also be dangerous if not taken seriously. Here are a few things to check before riding your electric scooter to help keep you safe.
If your scooter has any sort of locking mechanics, like a folding stem or folding handlebars, ensure that it is completely locked into place before standing on the scooter.
This one seems pretty obvious, but can easily be overlooked. Always do a quick brake test before riding your scooter. Although it's unlikely, it is possible that a brake wire or pad could have been damaged. If you forget to check before riding and something was damaged, you could end up in a situation where you can't stop quickly and end up hurting yourself or others.
Brake lights are becoming a standard on most electric scooters now. They help alert other possible commuters behind you that you are slowing down or stopping, so they should always be checked before hopping on your scooter.
Not all electric scooters have pneumatic tires, but if they do, it's always best to ensure they are inflated to their appropriate PSI. Not only will the correct PSI give you better control over your scooter, it will also help you get better range.
No matter what tires you have on your scooter, it is important to make sure they aren't too worn. Check each tire for any excessive wear or punctures that could cause a potential blowout.
Now that you have nearly completed our recommend pre ride checks, we advise that a quick overall inspection is performed. Glance over each side of the scooter, top and bottom. Look for any loose or missing bolts, cut wires, or anything that could potentially effect your ride negatively.
That concludes our pre-ride check list.
ONE FINAL NOTE
Just because you have completed our pre-ride checklist does not mean you are safe from any and all danger when riding your electric scooter. Their are many, many factors that contribute to the overall safety of an electric scooter rider. We simply hope to get riders one step closer to the safest ride possible.
